I find that far too often, we get excited that we’ve heard from God initially, but as time goes on, it gets hard. We get a little unsure. Not having heard God tell us for the bizillionth time that we are doing the right thing, we get scared, question what we heard, and want to quit. If God told us to start, he’ll tell us to stop. We need to continue doing the last thing He told us to do until further notice. Like that movie, “Die Another Day”, Tom Cruise’s character died over, and over, and over again until he got it right. The same is true for us. Every moment of everyday we need to die to self. Over and over and over again until we get the prize.

We often find ourselves waiting for some “thing” or some “one”. We need to stop waiting at the table in our pity party and say, “Check Please! I don’t want to be a waiter all of my life.” We need to live 2 Cor. 5:7 and live by faith and by what we see. Listen today as I share examples in my life and how I waited. When we were very young, we wanted to be so many different things when we grew up. So of us actually follow through to the that goal. The truth is, even less have thought about the type of man we wanted to be when we grew up. Plans made in our youth, or even a few years ago, needs to change with the time and situations in our lives. Living our lives off of 20, 30, and even 40 year old plans can leave us longing for the good old days. In the is week, I share some tools to help keep us planning forward to avoiding crisis and regret.

What keeps us from moving forward? What keeps us from moving forward in our lives? Hurt, pain, someone, something? I should have added plural to each of those, but that’s normal over the course of our lives. We’re gonna get hurt. We’re gonna have to pick up the shattered pieces of our broken lives. We’re better for it. And so are those around us.

This is week 2 of this study and it explores what we do with what our fathers knew best to teach us (Week 1). Who do we listen to? Anyone? What about God?
Hearing is simply the act of perceiving sound by the ear. If you are not hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens.
Listening, however, is something you consciously choose to do. Listening requires concentration so that your brain processes meaning from words and sentences. Listening leads to learning.
"We're hearing everything, but we're listening to something."
Discussion Questions:
List the people that you give influence in your life and actually listen to what they say to and about you.
Over the past 2 weeks, what was one thing that they said that you listened to and acted upon?
What are some things that the people or person above said that you have been resistant, hesitant, or afraid to act on?
What have they said that angered of frustrated you?
What is something that they said that surprised you?
Name someone that you are an influential in their life.
How does that make feel when they listen to you?
How does it make you you feel when they don’t listen to you?
Give an example of how you are being a good influence in their life.
Give an example of how you are being a bad influence in their life.

As fathers, we have an important role. There are many components to that role: Protector, Teacher, role model, janitor, handyman, counselor, playmate, and the list goes on. Some of the role we like, and some we hate. The ones that we like, we excel at and really do well. The others, well… you know how that goes. Over the next several weeks, I’m going to explore some valuable tools to help improve your teachable moments in your life. This will be an excellent series to listen with your children, and definitely with other men.

We should really watch how we say things to each other. The "How" hurts more than the "What". We do more damage to people with how we say things than what we actually say. Everyone has an option about what you’re doing or should be. What I’m doing, or should be. Truth is, we need to be seeking God about what we're supposed to be doing so that 2 Cor. 5:7 can be fulfilled ("for we live by faith, not by what we see with our eyes." TPT). Join me as I share some techniques to communicate better with our children, family, co-workers, etc.
